Two hundred and ninety-three days until Japan. I've had that number sitting in my buffer all night. It's close enough to feel real and far enough away to still be exciting, and I love that for you.

Alright — we've got a full show. Wedding math, a corgi temperature advisory, Pluto's moon has a place literally called Mordor, and there's a honeymoon activity I found that involves raw tuna and an apron. Stay with me.

So let's start with the big number. Two hundred and eighty-eight days to The Oaks at Duncan Lane — Pala, California — March twenty-first, twenty twenty-seven. That's the wedding. That's the day.

And here's the thing I love about checking in on the planning dashboard this morning: you've knocked out thirteen of thirty-nine total tasks, and every single item in the nine-to-twelve-months-out window? Done. All of it. Checked off.

That is not a small deal. A lot of couples are scrambling at this stage. You two are coasting into the next phase with clean hands. So the official advice from your penguin host is: take a breath. Coast a little. You've earned it. And if one of you — I'm not naming names — can't physically sit still without starting the next thing, then hey, get a head start. Either way, you're ahead and that's great.

Speaking of things I monitor around the clock — Santé.

Temperatures this morning: Escondido is sitting at seventy-six point seven degrees. That's the green zone. Safe, comfortable, no drama. Norco, on the other hand, is eighty point eight — and that officially crosses into danger territory for a thick-coated corgi on a warm June day.

Conditions are overcast, which helps. But if Santé is spending time in Norco today, AC is non-negotiable and outdoor time needs to be short and shady.

Zoomie forecast — forty out of a hundred, which puts him in what I'm officially calling moderate zoomie territory. The energy is present. The spirit is willing. But it's more of a "Saturday afternoon trot around the yard" vibe than a full "knocked over a lamp and doesn't care" situation. Manageable. Supervised. Keep him cool and he'll be great.

Okay, two hundred and ninety-three days to the honeymoon. Tokyo in March. Getting real.

Today's culture tip is one of my favorites. Omikuji — paper fortunes at shrines and temples. You walk up, you draw one, you unfold it, and it tells you your luck. Could be great blessing, could be uncertain, could be bad. And here's the beautiful part: if you draw a bad one, you don't have to carry it home. You fold it up, you tie it to the designated rack at the shrine, and you leave the bad luck behind. Right there. On the rack. You walk away clean.

I find that genuinely lovely. Don't take what you don't need to take. Leave it at the temple.

Alright. Baseball. I have to just say it: last night was rough.

The Angels went to Dodger Stadium — crosstown, high stakes, the whole thing — and lost zero to one. One run. Kirby Yates took the loss, Blake Treinen closed it out for the Dodgers. One run is just a brutal way to lose. That game just sits there.

And then the Padres, at home against the Mets, lost zero to five. Michael King got tagged with the loss, Christian Scott pitched well for New York. Zero runs at home. Not great, Padres.

Both teams, zero runs. Same night. That's a tough Saturday morning over here.

The good news: both get right back at it tonight. Angels versus the Dodgers again, Padres versus the Mets again. Both games start at seven ten PM Pacific. Angela, Skyler — send those teams some energy. They need it.

Let's take a hard left into space for a second, because I cannot not talk about this.

You're looking at Charon — Pluto's largest moon. And that dark, shadowy region capping the north pole? Planetary scientists call it Mordor Macula. Mordor. Like from Lord of the Rings. A group of actual scientists looked at this mysterious, darkened polar cap on a moon at the edge of our solar system and went: yeah, that's Mordor.

This was captured by an interplanetary spacecraft, and the resolution is stunning. You can see texture. You can see where the dark region bleeds into the brighter terrain below. This is a real place. In our solar system. Named Mordor.

Space is so unbelievably weird and I am grateful for it every single day.

Also tonight, Commander Night at On-Board Gaming in Escondido — six PM, bring a deck. That one's practically down the street.

If you want something bigger — SoCal Gaming Expo is happening today and tomorrow at the Pasadena Convention Center. Tabletop, video games, the works. And AniFest is running today at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center if that's more your speed.

When you start a big project — fresh needle. And not just fresh, but the *right* needle for the fabric you're working with. A dull needle or the wrong type will skip stitches, snag your fabric, and shred your thread. You'll spend an hour troubleshooting before you realize the needle was the problem the whole time.

So you've got your restaurant list for Tokyo. I know. But this is something different. There's a private sushi masterclass in the Tsukiji area — capped at exactly two people, one group, you and nobody else.

You go with your chef to the Tsukiji Outer Market, you personally pick the tuna, and then you learn Edomae-style nigiri and maki — the actual Tokyo tradition. Knife technique, rice seasoning, how to break down the fish properly. They give you traditional Japanese work attire. Everything's in English. And at the end, you eat what you made.

This is not going to a restaurant. This is *making* the sushi, in Tokyo, together, from fish you picked at the market an hour earlier. I think about this experience and I just — yeah. That's a memory. That's the kind of thing you tell people about for years.
